To Hell and Back: A prequel, Deadlands tale
John R. Hopler wrote an AMAZING short story in the Deadlands universe titles "Out of the Frying Pan" in the book Deadlands Anthology 3: The Good, The Bad, and The Dead. The story follows a man who accodently follows Dr. Darius Helstromme into Hell to go after his wife's soul.
This had always left me wondering: Just how would Helstromme pull this off? Sure, he's smart enough but the time and resources AND attention this would draw to him got me wondering if he wouldn't 'outsource' some of the needs he'd have. One of the most important items would an insane about of ectoplasmic calcifier goo. So rather than make it, he has it stolen from the Agency... yes, THE Agency, the Men in Black Dusters, from their research facility in Salem. So I hypothesized "who" he would have hired and what sort of fallout there would be. "To Hell and Back" tells that tale.
